Long Weekend Reflection and Detox

The long weekend is over and I’m back in Vancouver ready to start the week refreshed. I spent the long weekend in Victoria hanging out with some close friends and getting reacquainted with some high school classmates. Time has really gone by fast. My 10 year high school reunion is this year!

I’ve been thinking that in another 3 years I’ll be 30. Entering the fourth decade is supposed to be a huge milestone. I couldn’t help reflecting on how I arrived here, the lessons I learned and how I want to spend the next decade of my life.

  1. In my first decade I learned that the world is bigger than my house and my parents.
  2. In my second decade I learned to that I needed to define my own identity rather than look for it in the company I kept.
  3. As I wrap up my third decade I’m learning that ‘finding who I am‘ is a hell of a lot easier than creating ‘who I want to be‘.
  4. My forth decade will be spent invested in who I want to be:
    1. For financial freedom, I want to make money thinking up and building Purple Cows. Building a remarkable thing excites me a lot more than playing with one.
    2. Fitness. I’m in the best shape of my life right now and it’s only the beginning. By the time Decade #4 rolls around I’ll have a healthy lifestyle rather than a work out regime.
    3. Family. Kids maybe, but I’m not feeling anything paternal right now. We’ll have to see about this one. :)

So while I spent the weekend eating junk food and watching movies I also got in a good amount of thinking. When I got back today I implemented my own Crossfit workout to get back on the wagon.

For time:

  • 1000M row
  • 150 sit ups
  • 100 push ups
  • 200 squats
  • 1000M row

I did the above in ~ 35 minutes. In comparison this is my old work out in the building’s gym:

  • Run for 10 minutes
  • Do about 90 push ups (three sets of 30, varied)
  • Do about 90 squats (three sets of 30, varied)
  • Some sit ups
  • Maybe some weights

I would do the latter in about 45 minutes. Huge difference in intensity. Breaking 30 minutes on my work out will be a huge achievement.
