I needed last Tuesday’s work out bad. Last Tuesday was one of the most unbearable mornings of my life. Sutton.com crashed. I was dealing with some very difficult personal issues and I had a 4 hour meeting. The pressure had me on the verge of tears by the afternoon. When it rains it pours.
Things improved in the afternoon but I still had a dark cloud hanging above me for the rest of the day. I was seriously contemplating canceling Tuesday’s work out. Fortunately for me I didn’t.
This was Tuesday’s workout:
- Warm up – run around the block carrying a 20lb ball. I did this same run on Crossfit Day #0. My time was pretty bad, 1:55, the same time I set on my introductory day. Needless to say, my trainer was pissed. He made me run around the block again until my time improved. My next time: 1:48. I was pretty happy that I could do the run twice and finish faster the second time around. In contrast on Day #0 one run put me at 80% spent, this time both runs just got me warmed up!
- Technique:
- Kipping Pull Up. I can do 5 now unassisted. This was a huge personal achievement for me.
- Over head squat. This is a real killer exercise. Take a look:
It is intense because you need to do a squat while keeping a very heavy weight perfectly balanced above your head. It requires concentration, balance, power, coordination and it works your body from top to bottom.
- The Work Out: Lil’ Nancy
- Three sets of 400M run followed by 15 over head squats.
- My time: approximately 12 minute, with a 35lb bar.
- A full Nancy is five sets of 400M with a 95lb bar! Intense!
This is what was amazing about Tuesday’s workout. I walked in the door, a ton on my shoulders, depressed and feeling like my life was falling apart. I walked out on cloud nine, I couldn’t help smiling.
I started Crossfit to get into shape. Along the way not only my body but my mind and spirit have gotten stronger as well.
